These pictures were submitted by Rachael Higgins of her 5 year-old daughter, Isobel, who climbed Ben Nevis via the Carn Mor Dearg Arete, a gruelling hillwalk that takes in the two Munros (Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg).

Rachael, from Bradford in West Yorkshire, said, "We scrambled the side of Carn Mor Dearg and approached the summit of Nevis from the Arete. She did so well and managed to get to the bottom of the pony track on the descent before she started to tell us that her legs hurt!"

Rachael, who was also accompanied by her parter, Stephen, also said Isobel had been in training for the walk since last summer.

Date walked: 27th July 2011

NOTE: The Carn Mor Dearg Arete is a dangerous walk requiring a head for heights and exposure and also some modest scrambling ability. It is generally not considered suitable for children. It also requires preparation and the proper equipment for the conditions.
