About Stu aka 'Powerlord'

"I'm 39, grew up in a village called Kilncadzow near Lanark. I now live in Ipswich. I started flying paramotors about 5 years ago, and since then I've had a wish list of flights I wanted to try and do. One was to fly over my village, and I did that in the first couple of months. However most of the rest of them were flights I wanted to make in scotland that would require a bit more organisation:

- flying along glencoe
- flying over stirling castle
- flying over Ben Nevis
- flying Skye

I was up for a week last year, but bad weather meant I only got 2 flights : one over the grey mare's tail near Moffat, and one over Oban and Kerrera (Both have their own galleries on the website). This time, I got a week of awesome weather, and did 3 of the above (stirling castle also on website)." See lots more (and much larger) pictures at: http://powerlord.smugmug.com

If folk are interested in the contraption: It is basically a paraglider type wing. However instead of just wearing a harness, I strap a complete engine with propeller onto my back. The whole lot with fuel weighs about 40kg (90lbs). The engine is a little 80cc 2 stroke motor, and with my tank capacity give me about 5 hours flying time - however an hour or so is usually a nice maximum before you get cold/bored. Behind me, the carbon fibre prop is spinning about 500mph and propels me through the air at about 25mph - a nice slow speed that give you lots of time to take in the scenery. It took about 30 mins to fly up to 5000 feet for the nevis flight, then I can just let the engine tick over silently and glide back down over the next 25 mins or so.
